Old Firm Beaten By Championship Favourites

The Old Firm came up against Bedwas which is one of the club’s in the Championship East division who are in with a chance of winning it and going back into the Premier division. That showed on Saturday as they gave a display of 15 man rugby which was the best seen at Duffryn Pennar Park this season. Their all-round teamwork, skills and athleticism were reminiscent of the best Cardiff College of Further Education / South Glamorgan Institute / Cardiff Metropolitan teams of the past. They even looked like them physically.

They came to Duffryn Pennar Park with one loss, and that was by two points away to Penallta, another top three side, in the first game of the season. They will be a real test for all teams in the division. The Mount team should move on. They will not come up against a team like Bedwas every week. It is the games against those clubs outside the top four the Old Firm need to concentrate on. It is these which will determine who stays out of the bottom two relegation places come the end of the season. They can win any of these and gain bonus points by way of tries or a close loss, just like in Ynysddu. For Mount, wing Morgan James scored a try and outside half Callum Hall kicked the conversion and a 30 metre penalty.

This Saturday, 16 November, the Old Firm travel to Talywain for a Championship East fixture, kick off 2:30pm.
