Mount and Cambrian fought out two titanic struggles last season. It was not so at Duffryn Pennar Park on Saturday. After two good performances versus Treorchy and Ynysddu, the Old Firm were strangely subdued during this game and offered little. After the visitors took an early lead, Mount responded in the 13th minute with an attack from halfway. Wing Morgan James made a half break. Centre Steve Brittain took it on and gave to flanker David Richards who chipped nicely over the last defender for wing Cole Nash, following up at pace, to delicately kick on and then coolly drop on the ball to score to the delight of the home support. It failed to ignite the Old Firm, with the pack lacking energy and vigour throughout the game.
The visitors went back in front and early in the second half extended their lead to 17-5. After 53 minutes the ball was moved wide to full back Cushion in the Cambrian 22 and although there were defenders in his way, he did well to touch down to make it 17-10. Disappointingly that was it for Mount and another try and conversion by Cambrian sealed the game for the visitors.
