Mount Go Down

The Old Firm held a 6-0 lead after 17 minutes of this game through two nicely struck penalties by outside half Callum Hall, but a more cohesive Penallta team eventually got on top to go in 7-6 up at half time through a converted try.

The home team had the perfect start to the second half when poor midfield defence by Mount saw the home outside half go through on the Old Firm’s 22 without a hand laid on him and get away to score a try under the posts. The conversion made it 14-6. Further pressure from Penallta was rewarded with a penalty which was converted to make it 17-6, and then with just over an hour played, a quick tapped penalty from close-in saw a home forward drive over in the corner to make it 22-6.

Mount kept plugging away and a great bit of play by flanker David Richards saw him jink and weave his way through the home defence from halfway then beat the last defender on the Penallta 22 before he was stopped.

From a ruck on halfway, scrum half Jayden Pugh placed a diagonal kick beautifully which had the Penallta defence in all sorts of trouble. Fast following-up by wing Rhys Williams saw him dive on the ball for a well-deserved try to make it 22-11.

Mount welcome Treorchy to Duffryn Pennar Park this Saturday, 28 September, for a Championship East game, kick off 2:30pm.
