Young Firm Notch Up Another Win

This was a friendly arranged at short notice after two other teams pulled out this week due to low numbers. Mount have played Llanishen twice this season, in the Championship and in the National Plate, beating them on both occasions by narrow margins. The Young Firm were back at the Rec for the first time this year, and with the dry weather we’ve had the pitch was in very good shape.

Llanishen came out firing and attacked straight away. Mount had some uncharacteristic lapses in defence, missing tackles that they normally make but heldThe out on our line, where it matters most.

Mount took the game back to Llanishen but were unable to score. There was some good running rugby being played by both sides, amd both teams also had good defences. The game was back and fore for a while with Llanishen squandering two opportunities with knock on’s. 25 minutes in they looked like they had another chance to score but they were turned them over in their own half and an attack by the Young Firm which went to both sides of the field and involved at least seven or eight players ended with full back Iestyn Robins diving over in the corner for an excellent try. Jayden Pugh converted to make it 7-0 at half time to Mount.

Llanishen came out for the second half and attacked again. They were held up over the Mount line after just a minute and then had another try disallowed for a double movement. The game continued as the 1st half with some good breaks by both teams and strong defences. Llanishen put Mount under a lot of pressure at times but the defence held firm. Even with a Mount yellow card at the end, the Young Firm were able to stop them scoring, their fitness and determination admirable.

Try: Iestyn Robins. Con: Jayden Pugh.
