Old Firm Score 5 Tries In Sparkling Display

The Old Firm gave an excellent team performance, scoring 5 tries in their first Division 1 East Central game of the season. In attack and defence, the whole Mount team stepped up a level, with some of the tries scored being long range efforts which showed the rugby the team is capable of playing. Flanker Jordan Burke was named as Mount's man of the match, but there were a load of others who could also have had it. Second rows Daniel Phillips and Matthew Barnard were prominent, flanker Dai Richards finished off a superb move for a try, full back Jarrod Cushion got two, and hooker and captain Jarrad Parfitt also scored. It was good to see centre Alex Hughes getting back to his old self and regaining his form and fitness, and finishing off the scoring with a powerful run to score Mount's fifth try. Outside half Callum Hall kicked well out of hand and also contributed 10 points with two penalties and two conversions. It wasn't all attack for Mount and when called upon to defend, they did so with great determination and commitment. One former player and 1st XV captain of the 1980s said it was a pleasure to see a team able to pass the ball out wide in one of the best displays of attacking rugby he had seen for a long time, with two of the tries scored the best he had seen for many a year. High praise indeed. The Mount team have it in them to have a good season, but to do that they will have to keep playing the rugby they did on Saturday.
