Young Firm Win Away In Treorchy

With both Treorchy and Mount’s scheduled games called off, this Cardiff Rugby Championship fixture was brought forward by a week.
The Young Firm made a very good start to the game with some quick interplay between forwards and backs in midfield. The pitch was very heavy but the players managed to run and offload, getting straight into the opposition territory. Mount were awarded a penalty after just one minute but it drifted wide. Working their way back down into the Treorchy 22, the Young Firm got a try after 9 minutes, hooker Rhys Pullman driving over from a ruck near the opposition’s line. The game slowed, with a lot of kicking from hand from both sides and there was no more score in the half. Half time score 0-5
Mount went straight back at Treorchy after half time and looked to have the upper hand. A long range penalty from 45m out seemed a 50:50 call to kick but it managed to creep over the posts and made it 8-0, two scores clear. Play went back and fore with lots more kicking from hand until a nasty, accidental head clash in front of our posts saw both players subbed and a kickable penalty awarded to Treorchy, which they took to bring themselves within five points again.
Mount had an excellent break towards the end but a forward pass stopped what would have been a certain try, Treorchy then threw everything at Mount, but strong defence from the Young Firm kept them out and won the game for Mount.

The Young Firm have now played two and won two in the Cardiff Rugby Championship.

Try: Rhys Pullman. Penalty: Iestyn Robins.
