Youth Continue Winning Ways

With the seniors’ games off the Young Firm took pride of place on Duffryn Pennar Park. The weather was warm and sunny - they were perfect conditions for some running rugby.

Mount started well, got straight down into the opposition’s 22 and after just a couple of minutes some good angles were run off a scrum for the first try of the match. Caerau responded and worked their way down to the Mount line but strong defence by the Young Firm kept them out. Mount got back into their half and scored again under the posts, after their outside half darted through the defence.
3 minutes later, Caerau were in the Mount 22 with possession, they had a ruck a few metres out and one of the players picked up, spotted a gap and dived over the line to take their first points. 10 minutes after this, on halfway, a loose pass by Mount was intercepted by a Caerau player, who was able to run in under the posts to bring the scores level.

The Young Firm got straight back into it though, working their way down to the field after some good running and offloading for a try under the posts.

Half time score 19-12
5 minutes into the second half Mount scored again – some very good interplay and slick hands saw the team's replacement scrum half cross under the posts, which gained a bonus point. The game wasn’t going all Mount's way though, from a 5 metre lineout, Caerau Ely worked through some phases to score again.
Mount upped the pace of the game in the last quarter and put together some very good play with fast running and offloading. They crossed the line for a try which was disallowed for a forward pass but soon after their  centre caught a pass in midfield and ran through the Caerau players to score their 5th try.
With a nice lead and our confidence up, the Young Firm continued to run the ball and enjoy the game. The Mount centre scored again off some good phases, and straight from the restart No.8 and captain Steffan Calderbank caught the ball just outside the Mount 22 and ran through the opposition to score again.
Caerau kept going, but Mount defended well for the remaining time left and kept Caerau from scoring at all in the second half.
Tries: Steffan Calderbank (2), Jayden Pugh, Trystan Roberts, Ethan Davies, Cole Nash (2). Conversions: Jayden Pugh (5).
