Young Firm Continue Winning Ways

This game was played on another incredibly windy day, which seems all Mountain Ash Youth play in lately. This was a friendly arranged with Llandaff, who won the Shield last week, in the ‘South’ of the Cardiff Rugby regional competition. The Young Firm won the ‘North’ Plate last Saturday, so it ewas an interesting fixture.

The first half was fairly even to start with, with Llandaff eventually pushing at the Mount line and threatening to score after around 20 minutes. The Young Firm's defence was solid and held firm and they soaked up what Llandaff threw at them. Ten minutes later, Mount patiently worked their way up into the Llandaff half and wing Rhys Reynolds slipped over in the corner to make it 5-0, which was the half time score.

The Young Firm came out for the second half showing their intention with some good passages of play. Rhys Reynolds was again able to go over in the corner for his second try. Llandaff came back into the game straight away and got a try of their own shortly after. Mount had a period of play between 25 and 30 minutes in the second half where the tackling and defence really lifted and they were also able to get another two tries, both scored by forwards at close range, after some hard work and good phases where the Young Firm held onto the ball in the Llandaff 22.

A yellow card for Mount towards the end saw Llandaff able to exploit the gap left and cross the line in the last move of the game.

Tries: Rhys Reynolds (2), Kane Dix, Steffan Calderbank. Conversions: Ethan Morris (2).
