This was the Old Firm's last game in the pool stage of this season's WRU Plate competition. A fortnight earlier, both teams had been involved in a hard-fought game at Duffryn Pennar Park which Mount won 17-13. So, another tough game was expected in Abercwmboi. The Old Firm made too many basic errors and did not help themselves in the first half with petty ill-discipline which gifted Abercwmboi four penalties, which they converted. Two penalties by outside half Callum Hall and a try by hooker and captain Jarrad Parfitt made it 12-11 to 'boi at half time.
Mount were stronger after the break and scored 19 unanswered points through two tries by outside half Hall and one by centre Alex Hughes, with Hall converting two of them. The Old Firm now go into the last 24 draw, where 8 clubs will be given byes and 8 games will take place. The next round is on Saturday 22 January 2022.
