Holley Has Debut To Remember

Mount 1st XV player Will Holley became the first Old Firm player for several years to play for the Welsh Academicals. The honour added to his appearance for the Mid District earlier this season and Crawshays Welsh Youth last season.

He had a debut to remember as well, winning this game for the Academicals in dramatic fashion in Taffs Well with a touchline conversion.

Although starting as a substitute, only two minutes of the game had elapsed before an injury saw him come on and play centre. He wasted no time taking his chance, breaking a tackle and rounding the full back to score the first try of the day. Although a newcomer to the centre spot, he settled quickly.

The talented Oxford University students came back strongly, with their pack playing a big part, and scored three tries to go in front. The “Accies” replied with 3 tries of their own to go into half time with a narrow lead.

Will played right wing in the second half and did well marking his physically big and fast opposite number. Oxford went two scores clear but the Accies were far from beaten. The Accies forwards got a second wind and reduced the visitors’ lead to 46-41 going into the last minute.

An Accies penalty near halfway was kicked pinpoint by Will to 5 metres out, and from the lineout, a catch and drive resulted in the Accies scoring an equalising try to make it 46-46.

To complete a memorable debut for the Accies, Will fired over the conversion from the corner with the last kick of the game to win the match 48-46. If you want to view this last kick of the game, it can be seen on this website under Video and Gallery / Videos.
