In Memorium: Mr John Williams, Chancery Lane, Mountain Ash

It is with great sadness that we have to inform readers of the passing of John last week at the age of 80. He was a long-standing club supporter and a member of the Mountain Ash RFC Supporters Club committee for quite a number of years.

In the picture shown, John is in the back row on the far left. Joining him in the photograph are the rest of the 1992/93 Supporters Club committee, namely, in the front row, left to right: Alun Thomas, Michael Dunne, Richard Emes, and Brian Hughes, and in the back row, left to right, is John, Barrie Simmonds, Lyn Lyons and Gary Marsh. Memorable days indeed.

John was also a former Chairman of the Mountain Ash Darts Association, and at one of the presentation nights he helped organise, he arranged for the legendary Welsh footballer, John Charles, to attend and make the presentations, which went down a treat!

His son Michael and grandson, Callum, have both played rugby for the club.

John’s funeral is on Thursday 14 May. On the way to Llwydcoed Crematorium, the hearse will call in to the car park of the Club’s ground, Duffryn Pennar Park, at 4:40pm as John bids farewell to Mountain Ash RFC. Anyone wishing to attend and say goodbye is welcome. The cremation will take place at Llwydcoed at 5:15pm and will be attended by invite only due to the COVID-19 pandemic. R.I.P John.
