So Near Yet So Far For 2nd XV

Mountain Ash 2nd XV took on Bargoed 2nd XV at Caedrawnant and did well against the Premier division club’s second string which is one of the best around. Mount were competitive throughout the game, immediately getting amongst the physically bigger team and were tremendous in defence. Although conceding weight, the first scrum of the match saw the Mount forwards have the visiting pack bad pedalling. The Old Firm led 7-5 at half time through a try by wing Sam Akintioye and a conversion by outside half Declan Conway. Second row Kellan Williams got a try after half time, and with the score at 12-12 in the last minute of the game, with Mount defending heroically, a penalty close-in saw the visitors convert it and the referee blow up for full time. Although a defeat, it showed the potential the players in the Mount 2nd XV have. In the clubhouse afterwards, scrum half and captain Jonathan Lock was chosen as Man of the Match. Next Saturday, 22 September, Bedlinog 2nd XV visit Duffryn Pennar Park for a Rhondda and East Glamorgan League game, kick off 2:30pm.
