Young Firm Dig Deep to Win

The Young Firm were given a tough game by a tenacious Penygraig side at the Rec. Right from the kick off, Mount were dominant and scored an early try after a lovely line break by full back Jack Roberts led to wing Ethan Conway being put away to score the first try of the day. The Young Firm continued to attack but little mistakes cost several scoring chances. Penygraig took advantage, came back into the game and scored, dominating the final 10 minutes of first half.

The second half saw Mount score early through a blind side break with back Keiron Hawkins scoring in the corner. Penygraig were far from finished and got back into the game with a soft try and took the lead 14-12. The game then looked lost for Mount as they defended for long periods. With 15 minutes to go, the Young Firm came to life and scored a try through a scintillating Jarrad Cushion length of the field break which put fellow back Keiron Hawkins in for his second try. The last 5 minutes of this entertaining game saw Penygraig throw everything at the Young Firm to try and win the game. From a lineout on the Mount 22, Penygraig slung the ball out, only for outside half Iwan Pearson to intercept and run the length of the field to put the game to bed for Mount.

The Young Firm showed plenty of determination in this game. Backrow forward Jordan Burke proved to be a real handful with some strong runs, Captain Jack Roberts was a defensive rock at full back and made some try making runs, and centre Jarrad Cushion also had a good game. Winger Daniel Cartwright also deserves a mention. He was brought in at 7 where he hasn't played for 5 years and had an outstanding game in defence and attack.
