The Under 17s welcomed Machen to DPP in the return fixture following Mount's win at Machen last week. This was the first game on Duffryn Pennar Park since March last year and it was great to see rugby being played on it again. A slow start by Mount and some poor defence led to a couple of early Machen tries and although Mount scored some nicely worked tries of their own this was an edgy and scrappy game not helped by the conditions and ended with Machen winning 17:12. However a strong last quarter meant there is plenty of reason to be positive for the coming season and if it was not for a tight but correct foot in touch call this was a game the Young Firm could have pinched with the last play.
