The Youth welcomed current Welsh Champions, Tondu Youth, to Parc Dyffryn Pennar on Saturday for a second pre-season friendly.
Tondu brought a big squad of 30 players and started extremely well, going into an early lead. Mountain Ash Youth pride themselves on never giving up and fought back to level the scores, the forwards carrying hard into the Tondu 22, and then great handling by the backs gave wing Riley John the chance to brush off two defenders to score in the corner.
Mount we’re now playing well and were having the better of the exchanges and went further ahead, when a brilliant piece of skill saw No 8 Iwan Bowden racing over for Mount’s second try.
Tondu pulled a try back before Mount took the lead again following some good pick and drive plays, second row Will Thomas crashing over to put Mount back in the lead.
The ability to keep rotating 30 players saw Tondu finish the game stronger and ultimately take the result in the last 10 minutes by 26 points to 17. Another great pre-season game for the Youth, who always stayed in the fight, against a very good Youth side.
This Saturday, 19 August, South Gower Youth visit the Rec for a 1.00pm kick off. All support greatly appreciated.
