Win Puts Mount Top of Youth Table

Mountain Ash Youth welcomed Brecon to Caedrawnant for their first home league game of the season. Despite losing 7 players prior to the game, the Young Firm fielded a depleted squad of 17 to play their 3rd Cardiff North League game of the season. The weather was perfect for rugby, and Mount took advantage of the dry conditions and started really well by moving the ball at every opportunity. Great play by backs and forwards created a number of try scoring opportunities, only for the final pass to go astray, letting Brecon off the hook on a number of occasions.

Mount’s first try came from a break out from the Young Firm’s 22. Some quick passing from the ruck saw second row Lewis Veale race over to score. The Young Firm were now having the better of the exchanges but often forcing the last pass. A scrum outside the Brecon 22 saw the backs run a clever set piece move that saw full back Riley John race under the posts almost untouched. Mount then launched another attack from their own half, the forwards ran hard to create an overlap out wide that the backline took full advantage of, by running straight and using simple hands to draw in the remaining defenders for centre Darrin Barter to race over for the Young Firm’s 3rd try.

To their credit, Brecon continued to battle away and put Mount under enormous pressure, spending the majority of the final 15 minutes in the Mount 22, but resolute defence by the Young Firm ensured their try line wasn’t crossed. A great effort by a depleted squad, sees the Young Firm go into joint top position of the Cardiff North League.
