Young Firm Take Positives From First Defeat

The Young Firm's unbeaten run ended today against a physical Porth side who went at Mount from the start. They had the majority of possession and pressure for the first 15 minutes. The Mount defence was strong and held them out and also managed quite a few turnovers, but little mistakes by Mount stopped them scoring chances and kept Porth in the Mount half. The Young Firm had a good breakout after 25 minutes and a dropped pass by Mount, in front of th Porth try line, looked like another chance had gone. But the ball was won back and bounce up into winger Rhys Reynolds' hands saw him cross for his first try of the season. Mount attacked again and had another two breaks, Porth were able to hold them out. The Young Firm did cross the line again but a knock on in the process of touching down saw the try disallowed. Porth got back into the Mount half and scored a converted try to lead 7-5 at half time.

Porth came out for the second half and were straight back at Mount again. Play was end to end, but a scuffed pass by the Young Firm saw Porth gather the ball and score again. The home side then had a third try, but the Young Firm, to their credit, kept going and got their reward when replacement wing Taylor White scored at the very end. Porth were worthy winners on the day, but the Mount team will learn from this defeat. The Young Firm's set piece was good all game, and the defence strong as always. These are good positives to take into the cup game away to Builth Wells Youth next week.

Tries: Rhys Reynolds, Taylor White.
